This Privacy Policy explains how ChooseFIRE handles information when you use the calculator, planning pages, account features, and sync features. ChooseFIRE is a planning tool, so you should only enter information that is relevant to FIRE planning.
When you are signed out, calculator inputs, local plans, language settings, and theme preferences are stored primarily in your browser. When you sign in or choose to save or sync, ChooseFIRE may process account profile details, authentication session information, saved FIRE plans, assumptions, preferences, and timestamps through first-party account and sync services.
ChooseFIRE does not need bank passwords, brokerage credentials, government ID numbers, health records, or other unrelated sensitive information. Please do not enter that type of information into the product.
We use information to run the calculator, restore your saved plans, keep preferences in sync across devices, maintain account security, debug product issues, improve the user experience, and comply with applicable obligations.
We do not sell your saved FIRE plans or financial planning inputs.
ChooseFIRE uses browser storage for local plans, preferences, and drafts. We use cookies for language preference, theme settings, and sign-in sessions. Session cookies are configured with protections such as HttpOnly, Secure, and SameSite where supported, so browser scripts cannot read server-side session tokens.
We may use analytics services such as Google Tag Manager to understand aggregate product usage, page performance, device type, browser type, and approximate traffic patterns. Analytics should not include your detailed FIRE plan inputs.
The site may link to third-party websites. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.
We use HTTPS in transit and account-level access controls for signed-in sync. No online service can guarantee perfect security, so you remain responsible for keeping your device, browser, and account credentials secure.
Local data remains in your browser until you clear it or the browser removes it. Signed-in data is retained while your account or saved plans remain active, unless deletion or retention rules require otherwise.
You can use ChooseFIRE without signing in, clear local browser data, sign out, edit or archive saved plans where available, and adjust browser or consent settings that affect cookies and analytics.
For privacy questions or requests, use the contact channel published by ChooseFIRE. Do not include passwords, government IDs, or unrelated sensitive details when contacting us.
ChooseFIRE is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Privacy rights and retention rules can vary by region. Where local law gives you additional rights, we will handle requests according to the applicable requirements.
Plan data may include assets, expenses, contributions, return assumptions, inflation assumptions, withdrawal assumptions, selected region, selected currency, saved plan names, archive/default status, and related timestamps. Account data may include email address, display name, profile image, account identifier, sign-in status, and session metadata. Technical data may include browser type, device type, approximate request location, IP address as visible to infrastructure providers, page events, error logs, and performance information.
Most information comes directly from you when you type values, choose settings, sign in, or save a plan. Some information comes from your browser or device so the service can remember preferences, keep sessions active, measure product reliability, and protect the account flow. Authentication and infrastructure providers may provide limited account or technical information needed to complete sign-in and operate the service.
We may share information with service providers that help us host the product, authenticate users, store synced plans, measure aggregate usage, detect errors, secure the service, or respond to legal and operational needs. These providers receive information only for the relevant service purpose. ChooseFIRE is not designed to publish your saved plans, sell your planning inputs, or use your saved FIRE data for third-party ad targeting.
Where local law requires a legal basis, we rely on the bases that fit the feature: providing the service you request, maintaining legitimate product and security interests, complying with legal obligations, and consent where a consent-based feature or setting applies. Depending on your region, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, or withdrawal of consent. We will handle those requests according to the law that applies to the request.
ChooseFIRE is available online, and the systems that support it may process information in countries or regions other than where you live. When information is processed across borders, we aim to use appropriate operational, contractual, or technical safeguards for the type of data and service involved.
You can remove local-only data by clearing the relevant browser storage or using product controls where available. Signed-in data can be edited, archived, or deleted where the product provides those controls. Some information may remain for a limited period in logs, backups, security records, or records needed to resolve disputes, prevent abuse, or comply with obligations.
ChooseFIRE calculations are deterministic planning outputs based on your inputs; they are not credit, lending, insurance, employment, or eligibility decisions. We may send service-related or account-related communications when needed to operate the product. We do not use saved FIRE plans to make regulated financial decisions about you.
We may update this Privacy Policy as ChooseFIRE changes or as legal requirements evolve. The latest version will be posted on this page with an updated date.
